About Me

I love gardening!

My interest in horticulture started at an early age, as my father was the head gardener at Truro Cathedral School and I use to go with him to work at the weekends or during the holidays. He introduced me to how great it was to sow a seed and watch it grow into something wonderful, as well as all the nature around us in the garden i.e butterflies, birds and bees.

I have worked in various nurseries and garden centres including one large nursery where my plant knowledge really expanded. I loved working as a nursery man as I was really able to progress further in the passion I had for growing plants as a child. I worked at all the flower shows including, Hampton Court and Chelsea flower show. I now have extensive knowledge of plants, their growing habits and requirements. I have worked for landscape services and garden maintenance companies.

I started at Truro City Council as a grounds man for the football and cricket pitches, this is where I learnt the most about grass and how to work with it to get a lush green lawn.

I continued as deputy Parks Manager, before moving onto be Parks Manager where I was able to use the passion for plants in my design work of the flower beds throughout the city and at Boscawen Park at Malpas in Truro.  Working with a great team of dedicated individuals we achieved remarkable results in both the RHS Britton in Bloom and South West in Bloom annual competitions .

As a judge for RHS South West in Bloom, I was proud to be able to judge the ‘it’s your neighbourhood’ part of the competition as I love seeing all the hard work and effort people put into making their local areas look nice and how they get the community involved.

You can hear me on Garden Line on Radio Cornwall some Sunday mornings at 10am. I also write gardening articles which are published in the West Britton every other week.

Now working for Cornwall Council I am Head Gardener for a 28 acre site, where with a small team of enthusiastic individuals and volunteers we are committed to making the gardens  more sustainable and wild life friend whilst ensuring their elegance and beauty remain.
